According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in May this year decreased by 69.23 percent on tonnage basis compared to April, amounting to 14 ships, down from 29 ships recorded in April, totaling 454,140 gross tons, consisting of 13 bulk carriers and one tanker. In May 2013, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 29 ships amounting to 953,900 gross tons.
In the first five months of the current year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 163 ships with an aggregate of 7.22 million gross tons, increasing by 28.22 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in May this year Japan delivered 20 ships for export, totaling 801,431 gross tons, decreasing from 22 ships totaling 848,240 gross tons recorded in April. In May 2013, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 21 ships with 857,306 gross tons. Meanwhile, in the first five months of this year, Japan delivered 127 ships for export, totaling 5.37 million gross tons, decreasing by 12.66 percent year on year.
